Hypnotherapy for addiction

Image
Hypnotherapy is an evidence-based treatment for addiction, which can also be used to treat a variety of other psychological difficulties.  Hypnotherapy combines the psychological process of  hypnosis  with psychotherapy. Hypnotherapy is conducted by a trained therapist, typically a registered psychologist, with a client who is informed about and understands and consents to the process. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, known as a trance state, which is deliberately induced by one person—the hypnotist or hypnotherapist—on another individual person or group of people—the hypnotic subject or subjects. The change in consciousness that occurs under hypnosis is more than just a feeling, it can actually be measured and observed on the  EEG  readings of the brains of hypnotic subjects. Self-hypnosis is the practice of inducing hypnosis in oneself, and in fact, all hypnosis is a form of self-hypnosis. The main distinction between hypnosis and self-hypnosis is simp

Multifaceted Health Benefits of Medical Qigong

It is a challenge for the Western mind to understand the function of Qi in the context of bodily functions as defined by science. According to Chinese medicine and Qigong theory, Qi has an infinite number of functions in the body. The foundation of Qigong and TCM theory dictates that intention ( Yi) directs the movement of Qi , which in turn directs the flow of blood in the body. Increased or decreased electrical activity in specific areas of the body determines blood flow and fluid balance, accumulation and dispersal of substances. The practice of Qigong is the act of bringing awareness and skill to direct the function and movement of Qi . The correct movement of Qi is a force that engages the body’s natural tendency toward homeostasis. Continued practice provides reinforcement of the body’s inclination toward homeostasis and therefore toward optimal use of all its functions and potential. What are called ‘special abilities’ or ‘psychic powers that sometimes develop i

Traditional Chinese Medicine Techniques - Acupuncture

Acupuncture The first record of Acupuncture is found in the 4,700 year old Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine).  This is said to be the oldest medical textbook in existence. It is said to have been written down from even earlier theories by Shen Nung, the father of Chinese Medicine.  Shen Nung documented theories about circulation, pulse, and the heart over 4,000 years before European medicine had any concept about them.  As the basis of Acupuncture, Shen Nung theorized that the body had an energy force running throught it.  This energy force is know as Qi .  The Qi  consists of all essential life activities which include the spiritual, emotional, mental and the physical aspects of life.  A person's health is influenced by the flow of Qi  in the body, in combination with the universal forces of Yin and Yang.   If the flow of Qi is insufficient, unbalanced, interrupted or blocked, Yin and Yang become unbalanced and illness occurs. Diagnosing Psycho-emotional disorders in TCM

There is no dualism between the body and mind. There is no heirarchy in TCM of psychological over somatic functions or symptoms. Treat the body you treat the mind - treat the mind you treat the body. One does not exist without the other. The seven basic emotions related to organ function are anger, joy, worry, pensiveness, sadness,  fear , and shock (fright). Although the mind/body connection has been acknowledged only relatively recently in Western medicine, the interaction of emotions with the physical body is an essential aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each organ has a corresponding emotion; imbalance of this emotion can affect the organ's function. For example, prolonged anger can lead to an imbalance in the liver. At the same time, liver imbalances can produce symptoms of anger, often leading to a self-perpetuating cycle. Anger Anger is associated with the liver. By its nature, anger causes qi to rise, leading to a red face and red eyes,  he
